Spring Cleaning

New Age, Spirituality, and Alternative Thinking. Whatever its name, to some, it all means the same thing: a raised eyebrow, a challenge of philosophy, or a hearty laugh and a head shake. Well, since it is the "dawning of the Age of Aquarius" it only makes sense that we take on the appearance of the Water Bearer and talk the talk. Now, I don’t claim to hold the answers to the mysteries of the universe, and by no means do I vow to know everything – because I don’t. I’m trying to figure this out, just like the rest of you, which is what makes all of this so interesting.  Each of us learns at our own pace. We take what feels comfortable, digest it, and then spit out what doesn’t fit and keep only that which does.

Some philosophies are interesting enough to hold for a day, a week, a month, a decade, or even a lifetime.  Are they only intended to get us from one day to the next?  Probably!  What is difficult is the ability to be open to life, and yes, that includes the people who swear by renewed life by wearing a copper pyramid on their heads.   Or following the guidance of astrological wisdom: ‘Your Moon is in Cancer.  You have a sensitive tummy.  Spicy foods coupled with stress will leave you up all night, hugging the Pepto.  Another classic, Mercury Retrograde: ‘There is no way I am signing a rental agreement for at least another 6 weeks.’ My most favorite is Feng Shui and understanding the power behind the energy of how we place our belongings in our home:  ‘We can’t buy this house, the bathroom is the reputation bagua…my feng shui will be all screwed up.’

To your aware person, these thoughts and feelings make sense, but to your average Joe on the street, they seem flakey and maybe even laughable. But for Joe on the street, he may follow the guidance of another philosophy or seek wisdom in other means. Do we show him intolerance as he may to those who follow a different path? I would hope not, but we are human.  And to err is human; to forgive divine.

In fact, we’re all connected to this energy. Some are tuned in at a young age; others must experience a life changing event to bring them to a higher consciousness. And you don’t need to strap a copper pyramid to your head to feel whole; because there is no secret to tapping into the wealth of wisdom, compassion and wholeness. The question is…do you want to? Are we willing to let go of behaviors and attitudes that no longer fit?  A time to let go of the damaging effects and move onto that which makes us feel good, happy, prosperous and strong.

Since it’s the beginning of spring (well for some of you; not here in Pennsylvania), why not take this time to do some spring cleaning – both physical and emotional cleansing. It’s as easy as having a yard sale or a few eBay auctions to rid yourself of the items that clutter your space. Take the proceeds and treat yourself to something that reminds you of your commitment to yourself and being all that you can be.

In the end, it all boils down to simplistic wisdom derived from a smart fortune cookie: “Once you make a decision, your life will move forward.”

Do you have suggestions for cleansing and moving past obstacles?  If so, share them... we'd love to hear 'em!

Cleaning house... getting rid of the old making room for the new... how do the pack rats the fixed signs the ones who hold on to THINGS begin to even attempt to let go and clear out?

On a personal level I do not like clutter or better known as dust collectors, old magazines, envelops from the bills and letters that were in the mail not only today but from yesterdays – I like clean space clear space where the flow of energy (feng shui) can move about giving me the room in my house to feel good when I go to bed at night and wake up in the morning.  The insides of my closets are the same way, everything has a place. You are probably thinking I have one of those disorders :) but I don’t think so. I just know that when my place is clear and clean I can think better, accomplish more and just down right feel good.  My outside is the reflection of my inside or vise a versa if you will.

For many years when I lived in California and Nevada I would meet people through work who were totally cluttered.  I would be brought in to organize and clear out there work spaces as most of the people I knew worked from home having small offices – this was so much fun and gave me some great experiences and may lessons.

One of the things that people had the hardest time with was letting go – so I brought in a camera and took pictures of what  they were getting rid of.  Sometimes the garage was so full it took (back then) a few rolls of film to get this done.  The pictures were than scanned into the computer or put in a scrap book and whenever they felt the urge to remember those memories they could boot up the computer or open the scrap book.  This method helped relieve the anxiety of letting go.

In some of my reading people told me that they had visitors from beyond that they did not know and did not want around.  I would ask where the bed was in the room, what colors they used and what kind of pictures were hanging on the wall, if they had areas that were cluttered, etc. With a few changes they found that the energy that was coming in and disturbing them went away.  Sounds simple, it really is.

It is interesting that feng shui means wind and water –Aquarius is an air sign and the water bearer, how new age is that??? So for happiness to be yours clear out your space let the flow go and do something about your hair (some old hippie humor).
