Chiron is turning retrograde in Aquarius on Sunday, May 25th, retracing its steps through Aquarius until October 24th. We don't talk a lot about this little Centaur with the unusual orbit, yet Chiron impacts all of us and its placement in your chart natal is important to the understanding of Karmic lessons.

Discovered in 1977, Chiron is named after the Centaur of Greek Mythology. Mythological Chiron was the immortal son of Kronos (Saturn) who, unlike those other rowdy, hard drinking Centaurs was a healer and astrologer. He gave up his immortality, sacrificing his life to save Prometheus, thus allowing humankind to have the use of fire. He presides over healing and relationships and points to the places made strong through pain and is often referred to as "the wounded healer." In contemporary astrology Chiron represents the deep karmic wounds in the subconscious that we have brought into this life to heal through learned compassion and wisdom.

Chiron is currently in Aquarius, the sign of collective values and revolutionary change. During the retrograde cycle we may search for new ways to acknowledge our authentic, independent selves as Chiron acts to raise our awareness.  When we retrace our steps with Chiron in Aquarius we can more easily stand in our truth as separate from group thinking that may no longer serve our highest good. Perhaps the Chiron retrograde will help us to discover new ways of healing the planet as we re-discover old ways of going green!
